Message From the Principal

Dear Families, 

Thank you for coming to our Meet the Teacher/Open House last evening. It was so nice to see many returning families and meet new ones. The staff all agreed that it was such a joy to see your children's excitement as they led you around the school. 

Thank you to our Convent Glen Catholic School Council for their warm welcome to our school community and for providing an iced cold treat for you to enjoy on your way home. Thank you to our Educators for all of their hard work and for providing another fun BINGO card adventure!

Our Terry Fox Run/Walk will be on Thursday Sept 24th(weather permitting). Please stay tuned next week for more information. 

Allergies

Please be aware that there are students and staff members in our school with severe life-threatening food allergies. Please see our updated list: Please do not send any peanuts, tree nuts, and shellfish. These individuals are diagnosed as anaphylactic. Anaphylaxis is a medical condition that causes a severe reaction to specific foods and can be fatal. Your child’s teacher will share specific information about possible allergies in their classroom.  Convent Glen Catholic School strives to be a scent-free environment for the safety of staff and students.  We thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep all of our students and staff safe.

School Council Updates

It was so nice to see everyone out at Meet the Teacher last night!

A few quick reminders from School Council:

• Our first School Council meeting is Tuesday, September 29 from 6:00–7:00 PM in the Learning Commons. All parents are welcome! If you’re interested in joining the council, please CLICK HERE to sign up. 

• Hot lunches are now available to order through School Cash Online. Once logged in, click the LUNCHBOX link. You can submit orders by Sunday at 12:00 for the upcoming week, or you can bulk order several weeks at a time.

• Tuesdays: BarBurrito

• Thursdays: Harvey’s

• Fridays: Subway

• We encourage all parents to become approved OCSB volunteers, so you’re able to help with school events and field trips throughout the year. A police record check is required. More information is available here: OCSB Volunteer Information

Morning Drop-off/Afternoon Pickup

Morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal is always the busiest time of the school day. We encourage parents to walk their children to school, if possible. To ensure the safety of all students and staff, we ask that you please follow the expectations below.

If you are dropping your child off for EDP or school in the morning, we ask that you please park in one of the visitor parking spots and not the staff parking lot.  

Students who travel to school by bus or special transportation vehicles are greeted each morning by a staff member on duty who will guide them safely to the path that leads to the school yard. Kindergarten bus students will be directed to their yard by one of our student bus leaders.  

Students who walk or bike to school proceed directly to the school yard.  Kindergarten students who do not take a bus will need to be dropped off by a parent/guardian at the gate near the kindergarten yard at the front of the school.

Parents who drive their children to school will need to park their car in one of the visitor parking spots and walk their children to their school yard (or office if arriving after 9:15 am).  We ask that you refrain from letting your children out of your vehicle in the parking lot as it is not safe.  

For the safety of all of our students, we ask that you respect this request. Students are not permitted in the parking lot without the supervision of a parent/guardian. Please escort children to the appropriate gate.

If there is a change of plan in regards to how your child will be going home at the end of the day, parents MUST phone or email the school before 3:15 pm to notify us of the change. This includes changes to who is picking up your child or if your child is not to take the bus that day.  This protocol is extremely important to follow so that we know our students are going home safely.

Kindergarten end of day pick up begins at 3:40 and students need to be picked up by 3:45(end of day dismissal).

CSPA

• Save the date! You are invited to the Family Expo on Saturday, September 26th at St Paul’s High School. Explore workshops, find support and connect at our community resource cafe. Everyone is welcome!

• The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is pleased to invite nominations for representatives to serve on our Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the upcoming term. The deadline is September 30th. SEAC plays a vital role in ensuring at the voices of parents, associations, and community members who advocate for students with exceptionalities are reflected in the Board's special education programs and services. 8th Annual Rudhro Prince Memorial Walk

For those who may not know Rudhro’s story, Rudhro Prince was an Ottawa Catholic School Board student who tragically passed away at only eight years old following a severe asthma attack in May 2018.

Rudhro was known for his beautiful smile, his kindness, and especially his ability to make everyone feel included. He believed that no child should feel alone and had a special way of becoming a friend to anyone who needed one.

After losing Rudhro, our family made a promise that his short life would continue to have a meaningful impact on others. That promise eventually became the Rudhro Prince Hope Foundation, and one of the most meaningful ways his legacy lives on is through the Rudhro Prince Friendship Award. Today, the award is presented annually in 73 Ottawa Catholic elementary schools, recognizing students who demonstrate the qualities Rudhro lived by—kindness, friendship, compassion and inclusion.

Every year, we also host the Rudhro Prince Memorial Walk to bring our community together, raise awareness about asthma and its potential severity, support children's health initiatives, and continue spreading Rudhro's message of kindness.

The morning will include a DJ, face painting, henna, a bouncy castle and more, making it a wonderful family-friendly event. I have attached our event poster, which includes a QR code that families can scan to register or donate.

Every child who chooses kindness, every family that learns more about asthma, every person who volunteers, and every community member who walks beside us helps Rudhro's legacy continue.

Thank you for helping us carry that legacy forward within your school. Your support means more to our family than words can express.

We hope to see you and many members of your school community walking alongside us on September 27.
